Meet Adventure Therapy’s

Board of Directors

We are so proud of the individuals that make up our Board of Directors. They are people who come from a variety of backgrounds, but each have a passion to see the cancer experience improve for all who are impacted.

James Creston

James was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in January of 2018, a life changing experience with many challenges including having to resign from his 15 year career as an Operator at a power plant. After a year and a half of treatment and recovery, and completing chemotherapy, James was able to return to his career as a Combustion Turbine Specialist at the Northern California Power Agency. Now with 19 years in electrical power generation , James was recently promoted to Maintenance Supervisor at the NCPA Combustion Turbine Facilities. 

James is extremely passionate about his work and takes great pride in every assignment. He was recently invited to join the Board of “Adventure Therapy Foundation.” In his spare time, James enjoys photography, playing the piano, and loves working with his wife running their small business, Vamp Salon LLC.

Gina McCarthy

After being a stay-at-home mom of four for 20 years, Gina went back back to school in 2019 to finish her social science degree. As she continues to raise her children, she has spent the past eight years working as an elementary and middle school art teacher at Vista Oaks Charter School. When she isn’t working and spending time with her husband and kids, Gina loves reading, art, and adventure, whether it’s exploring the city streets of San Francisco or hiking in Yosemite and the mountains of Spain.

Clifton Huffmaster

Clifton is a Special Victims Unit Detective with the City of Concord, California. He is also a Ph.D candidate in Historical Studies of Religion at the Graduate Theological Union. His wife, Lauren, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.  Clifton has played an integral role in the founding and development of Adventure Therapy Foundation. Clifton and Lauren have three daughters: Alyssa, Hope, and Audrey.

Dan Torres

Dan resides in Brentwood with his wife, Angela, and their daughters Stella and Eva. He is currently the president of the Rotary Club of Brentwood, and is a past president of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce, Brentwood Elementary Parents Club, and Delta Networking Partners. Professionally, he is the principal of Torres Financial and Insurance Services.

Lauren Huffmaster

Lauren Huffmaster is a metastatic breast cancer survivor of seven years and the founder of Adventure Therapy Foundation. She spends her time urgently pursuing a vision that will change the experience of cancer. Lauren is a speaker, author, and host of the podcast, Adventures With Scars.
She loves her family and spends time with her three daughters singing Broadway songs, building STEM projects, sitting at softball fields, and planning trips to Disneyland.
