July was quite a month!  In case you didn’t know, I walked 200 miles of the Camino de Santiago. Then I came home, celebrated Adventure Therapy’s birthday, and led a community retreat with five families! Each of these events reminded me just how strong we all are.

During the retreat, I led the families on a hike down into a cave. The hill seemed steep and long as we went down. I remember wondering if the children and adults would be overwhelmed by the climb back up. After swimming in the cave for a few hours, I attached myself to one of the youngest and perhaps least experienced hikers. Her mom said it would take a miracle to get her to the top of the hill. On the Camino, I learned that my feet are strong enough to climb any mountain, it is my mind that chooses to give up. With this thought, I started a conversation with this young hiker. I sang her songs, told her stories, asked her questions, and when we reached the top of the hill, not only were we perfectly happy, we were also best friends.

This is exactly the heart of the Adventure Therapy Foundation. We want to tell you stories of resilience, stand beside you to demonstrate strength, and provide a little fun so you can forget how hard your journey is right now.  Plus, you might just find an opportunity to make a new best friend along the way.
